The Trump administration has made an erratic and arbitrary decision that harms both countries.
On Wednesday, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) expressed its firm support for Mexico in the face of the imposition of tariffs by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. Below is the statement on the matter:

“In response to the imposition of unilateral economic and tariff measures by the U.S. government against the Mexican economy and people, it is pertinent to recall the historic words of Mexican President Benito Juarez, who stated the following during the French intervention in his country between 1862 and 1867:
‘The government of the Republic will fulfill its duty to defend its independence, repel foreign aggression, and accept the struggle to which it has been provoked, relying on the unanimous spirit of the Mexican people and the certainty that the cause of rights and justice will prevail sooner or later.’
The U.S. government has made an erratic and arbitrary decision that harms both the Mexican people and the American people by imposing a 25% tariff on products imported from Mexican territory.
In this regard, the ALBA-TCP countries express their strongest solidarity with the people and government of the United Mexican States, as well as their support for Mexico’s right to development without external interference.
In this sense, the Bolivarian Alliance recognizes the dignified and sovereign response of the Mexican government, voiced by its President Claudia Sheinbaum, as well as its continuous call for dialogue, prudence, and the necessary maturity from U.S. authorities.
The ALBA-TCP hopes that this delicate situation can be resolved through direct negotiations, based on dialogue, cooperation, mutual respect, and adherence to the principle of sovereign equality among states.
